Croydon Citizen has run two articles on the London Living Wage. The first by Labour Councillor and LLW campaigner Jamie Audsley prompted Gavin Barwell, Tory Central Croydon MP, to reply. Despite the wide range of people who attended the Croydon Citizens event on 2 November about the LWW no one who was present has yet posted a comment on Barwell’s piece.

Sutton seeks £5,400 for legal costs from Shasha Khan over Incinerator action

http://www.stoptheincinerator.co.uk/?page_id=212

Charlotte Davies writes:

‘Shasha Khan has had a final demand for the costs for the incinerator campaign for £5,400. He has been incredibly brave and accepted personal responsibility for challenging the building of an incinerator on the Sutton Croydon borders, on green belt, in a wildlife reserve, close to some of the densest population in Europe.

None of us want all the waste for South London being incinerated in our area; it is going to impact on air quality and traffic congestion.

Shasha stood up, and led on the legal challenge. That is a really frightening thing to do. He had to take personal legal responsibility. He did it for all of us. He tried his best, but has lost and now faces a final bill of £5,400 please chip in what you can he only has a matter of days to clear this.’

Payments can be made by cheque to: Mr S Khan, Stop The Incinerator, c/o 97 Priory Road, Croydon, CR0 3QZ

Or by Bank transfers can be made to Mr S I Khan, sort code 089300, account 83302576’

Concerns over council plan for permanent traveller site in South Croydon

http://www.croydonadvertiser.co.uk/Concerns-council-plan-new-traveller-site

There are three sites. They are mentioned in the Local Plan which is also being consulted on. For many this is a difficult issue on the one hand recognising the need for proper pitches, on the other fears about potential problems, and to complicate matters concern about the loss of sites which could have an alternative green use.
