Croydon Debating Club

Robert Ward,  a  contributor to Croydon Citizen, has started a Croydon Debating Club. Its meeting are as follows:

Tuesday 31 January. 7.30-9.30pm. “How do you get the council to listen?”

Thursday 19. 8-10am. A dog-awareness morning

Hosted by Croydon Council at King George’s Field, Gloucester Road.

Dog owners can meet the council’s dog warden and neighbourhood safety officers, and seek advice on a wide range of topics, such as behaviour concerns, dog-related legislation, lost-dog advice and rescue-dog adoption. Free microchipping, ID tags, low-cost neutering vouchers, and behaviour and training advice will be available on site.

Croydon Creative Month: February 2017

Croydon Creative is  organising a month-long celebration of Croydon’s creative industries. Open House events, drop-ins, workshops and Q&As at venues across Croydon throughout February aimed at creative businesses and professionals. Musicians, artist, thespians, designers, photographers, film-makers. If you consider yourself a creative, you are welcome to any of the free events we are organising.

Since moving to Norbury in July 2011 I have been active on local economy issues with Croydon TUC and Croydon Assembly, and am a member of the latter's Environment Forum. I am a member of the 5 Norbury Residents Associations Joint Planning Committee, and a Governor of Norbury Manor Primary School. I write for Croydon Citizen at I co-ordinate the Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Croydon Radical History Networks and advise the North East People's History Project.. I give history talks and lead history walks. I retired in 2012 having worked in the community/voluntary sector and on heritage projects. My history interests include labour movement, mutuality, Black British, slavery & abolition, Edwardian roller skating and the social and political use of music and song. I have a particular interest in the histories of Battersea and Wandsworth, Croydon and Lambeth. I have a publishing imprint History & Social Action Publications.
