Rival candidates weaken chance to oust Gavin Barwell
The decision of the Greens to run Tracey Hague, and the Lib Dems Gill Hickson, as their candidates in Croydon Central will reduce the chance of Labour to win and oust Gavin Barwell. He has been a strong supporter of the Tory austerity cuts which have so adversely affected Croydon residents, cuts of funding to Councils, and promoted the property developers who are pushing up housing costs and swamping us with ugly tower blocks. Labour’s Sarah Jones has accused Barwell of breaking promises
Concern was expressed at last nights Tory Councillor/Residents Association meeting by a group of Residents Associations about Gavin Barwell’s appearance at the Local Plan Public Hearing because they fear he will not support their objections, especially as for the moment he remains Minister for Housing and London. I argued that given the purdah period of the General Election he and former MP Chris Philp who is standing again in Croydon South should withdraw from taking part in the Hearing as they might use what they say for electioneering purposes.
